My name is Sally Davey and I am the new Social Worker at Coolnwynpin SS.

As my role is new to this school, I thought it would be a good idea to touch base with you all to explain what my role entails and referral processes. Please note that I work between three schools and attend Coolnwynpin SS on a part time basis only (Thursdays and every second Friday- pay week). My office is located in the PCYC building.

School Social Worker role:

My role is to support the emotional wellbeing of students with mild to moderate mental health concerns by identifying and addressing barriers to student learning and engagement. These barriers may include childhood and intergenerational trauma, grief and loss, complex family dynamics, domestic and family violence, poverty and disability (to name a few).

Social Work interventions can include:

  • Counselling, check ins and emotional support for students.
  • Working with students' families (advocacy & capacity building).
  • Identifying and documenting individual needs and factors that may be impacting the emotional wellbeing of the students and their families.
  • Referrals to external agencies for additional or specialised support (Child and Youth Mental Health, Family and Child Connect, Domestic Violence Service Providers etc).
  • Group work/programs.

Referral process:

If you know of a student that requires additional support, please see the leadership team or me directly (in person or email is fine). Parents will be required to complete and sign consent form (see below).

As you know your school and students best- please come to chat to me at any time if you have ideas or areas of focus that you think would improve the overall wellbeing of the school community 😊.

Kind regards
